The producer of ‘Super 8’ is a well known producer called Steven Spielberg. He is a well known producer and is known for his uniqueness of using children as his main characters in his movies, his movies are also a high budget movie which contains lots of explosions and action as we see in super 8. He’s also known for producing movies such as E.T and men in black 3. The director of the movie is J.J Abrams which is also well known for directing Mission Impossible.
The movie is based in the 1970’s in a small town of Ohio. Where the character Joe’s mum had recently passed away and to get his mind of things helps his friend Charles make a zombie movie for a contest. They choose to base a scene at a local train station as Alice has stolen her dads car as transport to get there. They steadily wait for a train to appear. Charles calls out ‘action’ however as the train passes by a car also appears on the tracks where a collision occurs also as this is a Spielberg movie we expect to see action with large explosions. Everything at the station is wrecked however something mysterious escapes and is caught on their camera.
Super 8 is a monsterous movie similar to E.T. Its monster is a weird hybrid of Spielberg’s family-friendly visitor from another world. It has super intelligence, super strength, super-advanced technology, and psychic powers but is unable to call home and hates humans because of decades of torture and lab specimen experiments by military scientists, therefore making it the government’s fault that it eats people.
The main actors are Joe (Joel Courtney) and Alice (Ellie Fanning) which are the hero and heroine. As Joe has a crush on Alice and as she gets captured by the alien, Joe believes it’s his duty to go save her. The acting of the character was really good as the view remains interacted and wants to see what will happen next. Joe made moments of his mother very emotional as she passed away in an accident. Alice was also really good as she expresses her love for her mother which she does not have, also how she is scared and broken as her father does not treat her correctly and tell her what to do. Charles also acts well as he shows his determination towards making his movie and wants to make this movie no matter what, even after the accident. Jackson Lamb shows that he has been broken down and really upset with his wife passing away but is also wants to save his town even by going against the army. Carey also shows his love for explosions as he helps distract the alien while Joe saves Alice and creates his own explosions.
The soundtrack of the movie is used in the movie as the alien is getting into its spaceship and about to fly away. I liked the way this was used as it gives a sense of relief to the viewer and happiness as everything is over. The soundtrack was also used during the moment in the school as it was a scene of a discovery and the information was revealed of why the alien is here and what its aim is. The sound created a massive impact atmosphere as it was loud but also came from different directions which made the atmosphere more frightening.
The target audience for this movie would be 10-15 years old as they would enjoy watching sci-fi movies and also the actors relate to the same age group as it target audience.
